Budget 2026 announcement

The Government has allocated just over $84 million over the next 4 years for the Ministry of Disabled People – Whaikaha.

This funding supports our work to improve outcomes for disabled people and supports relationships between government and the disability community.

There is also a range of initiatives across Budget 2026 led by other agencies that may be of interest to the disability community. This includes targeted funding to improve learning support, with specific support for Deaf students and interpreter access for Deaf parents, as well as more help for students with additional needs and a stronger focus on literacy and maths in schools.
