This page outlines the agencies taking part in the internship programme, and which roles are open for application.

Department of Internal Affairs – Te Tari Taiwhenua
2 placements available:
- Research and evaluation – Conduct research on how we can ensure our passports remain safe and secure.
- Māori – Support a Māori advisory board by providing event management and other support, as well as supporting te ao Māori learning and development.
Inland Revenue – Te Tari Taake
1 placement available working across these 2 areas:
- Information, Knowledge and Record Management – Updating digital systems content, sorting documents, and inputting data.
- Marketing and Communications – Writing communications content, transcribing videos, drafting and designing social media posts.
Ministry of Disabled People – Whaikaha
1 placement available where you will rotate between 2 teams to get experience in both areas:
- Alternate Formats and Information – Support the team who administer the all-of-Government alternate formats service, by reviewing guidance and supporting the administration of the service.
- Māori - Supporting our Kaihautū Chief Advisor Māori to draft reports and advice, and encourage te ao Māori approaches.
Ministry of Education – Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga
1 placement available in 1 of the following areas:
- Procurement – Review, write and collate documents to support the identification and evaluation of suppliers for goods and services; or
- Communications and Ministerial servicing – Respond to mailbox queries, write correspondence, respond to requests for information from Ministers’ offices and write reports; or
- IT and Digital – Undertake project work and support senior developer and gain experience using .NET, Salesforce, and/or ArcGIS.
Ministry for the Environment – Manatū Mō Te Taiao
1 placement available:
Governance and Ministerial Servicing – Supporting a Minister by preparing draft letters, writing responses to requests for official and parliamentary information, managing a shared inbox, and providing secretariat support (for example, minute-taking, coordinating and organising meetings).
Ministry for Pacific Peoples – Te Manatū mō Ngā Iwi o Te Moana-nui-a-Kiwa
1 placement available:
Policy – Write, research, analyse and review government policies from both Pacific and disability perspectives. You may also get opportunities to hold or participate in workshops.
Ministry of Social Development (MSD) – Te Manatū Whakahiato Ora
2 placements available:
- People Experience and Human Resources (HR) – Support the set-up of a mentoring programme, and review Diversity, Equity and Inclusion data collection and analysis. You will also get some experience in administrative and coordination support for the recruitment team.
- Corporate – Support new processes and tools, project planning, scheduling activities, reporting and providing secretariat support to different teams.
National Emergency Management Agency – Te Rākau Whakamarumaru
1 placement available:
Communications – supporting New Zealanders to be prepared for and respond to emergencies by creating communications content (for example, social media posts, emails, newsletters) researching different approaches, and working with experts.
New Zealand Qualifications Authority – Mana Tohu Mātauranga o Aotearoa
1 placement available:
Research and Evaluation – Conducting research and analysis, to support the of an Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Evaluation Framework.
Real Estate Authority – Te Mana Papawhenua
1 placement available:
Communications – Helping people understand how to buy and sell property and supporting real estate agents to act responsibly and professionally by creating communications content (for example, social media posts, emails, newsletters).
Stats NZ – Tatauranga Aotearoa
1 placement available:
Human Resources (HR) – responding to queries about HR issues, tracking the resolution of queries, coordinating recruitment and organising records.
