NZSL Community Grant applications now open
Grant applications for projects that support, promote and encourage the use of New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) have now opened for 2025.
Administered by the NZSL Board external URL , up to $250,000 per year is available for the community grants.
Anyone can apply for a grant, which can be between $5000 – $50,000. Projects must be completed in one year and be based in New Zealand.
It is also now easier to apply, with changes made to the application process and the ability to answer the long-answer questions, such as “describe your project idea”, in NZSL or English.
Projects that are led by Turi Māori, for Turi Māori are encouraged. Te Rōpū Kaitiaki, a Turi Māori (Māori Deaf) strategic advisory group to the NZSL Board, is involved in deciding whether to fund Turi Māori projects.
If you would like to apply and have questions about the process, the NZSL Board will be hosting a Zoom Q+A session where you can ask questions in NZSL or English on Tuesday 18 March 12pm-1pm. If you would like to join the Zoom Q+A, please email nzsl@whaikaha.govt.nz for the Zoom link.
Applications are now open and will close on 23 March. Decisions will be made in May and announced in July.
