New Zealand Disability Strategy reporting and monitoring
We report on progress to put the strategy into action and monitor the impact it is having on the lives of disabled people and tāngata whaikaha Māori.
The strategy has 34 actions across 5 priority areas of education, employment, health, housing and justice.
Implementation status dashboard
Every six months we will publish an update to show the progress on the strategy actions.
As at August 2026, implementation is progressing well with 28 of the 34 actions on track and no actions at risk. The dashboard used a five-point colour scale to show the status of actions.
The dashboard also includes:
- an executive summary
- a summary table showing action timelines and status
- a detailed table with quarterly milestones.
Outcomes monitoring dashboard
A framework to measure the impact of the strategy on the lives of disabled people and tāngata whaikaha Māori has been developed.
Progress on important life outcomes for disabled peoples is measured at a system level across the strategy’s 5 priority areas. Each has 4-5 primary measures to track progress towards the goal for that area as well as supporting measures to provide more detail.
We also include a small number of measures to track progress towards the strategy’s overall vision and principles.
You can explore the data in the interactive dashboard below including extra breakdowns and contextual information. The data will be updated at least annually.
