Extreme weather in Auckland

With the extreme weather that is impacting Auckland, we are thinking of any disabled people and whānau who may be affected. Please make sure that you keep safe.
We are regularly updating this post to provide information for disabled people and whānau as well as general information.

Whaikaha has a team working to ensure disabled people and whānau have access to support during this time.

If you are in danger, please contact emergency services and call 111. If you are registered you can do this via the 111 text line.
If you need help you should first contact Auckland Emergency Management aeminfo@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz or phone 09 301 0101.
Deaf and disabled people and whānau can contact Whakarongorau Aotearoa, New Zealand Telehealth Services if you need support, text 8988 or call 0800 111 213,
If you are accessing disability support services and need extra support, in the first instance contact your provider. You can also contact Whaikaha – Ministry of Disabled People at contact@whaikaha.govt.nz or via 0800 566 601.
For people affected by flooding
If you are affected by the Auckland floods and on a benefit or low income, Work and Income may be able to help.
For people impacted by the flooding, there is financial support available, please contact Work and Income.Call on 0800 400 100, MSD_Deaf_Services@msd.govt.nz. Open Saturday, Sunday and Monday 8am - 5pm
Civil Defence Centres
Civil Defence Centres are accessible.
People going there with assist dogs should take them.
Please remember other essential items you may need, such as devices, medicine, warm clothing, and baby items.
The locations are:
- Hub West- 27 Corban Avenue, Henderson
- Manu Tukutuku, 32 Riverton Drive, Randwick Park

Community information hubs
From midday Wednesday 1 February, you can access community and information centres operating.
- Mangere - Moana-Nui-a-Kiwa Pool and Leisure Centre, Mascot Ave (24 Hours)
- New Lynn Community Centre – 45 Totara Avenue, New Lynn (9am - 5pm)
- Birkenhead Leisure Centre – 46 Mahara Avenue, Birkenhead (9am - 5pm)
Waste disposal
If you need a skip bin, or for storm damaged waste to be removed from your property, please contact 0800 22 22 00 to request bins and support for disposing of waste.
The Student Volunteer Army have been briefed to help our community with the clean up. Please visit their website and log a job with them:

Important information for disabled people and whānau
- Further rainfall is anticipated so please keep an eye on the weather forecast
- Please only return to your property if it is safe to do so.
- Do not drive through floodwaters and remember it could be contaminated
- Hazards and debris could also be beneath the surface
- Take pictures of any damage for your insurance company and contact them as soon as possible
